Stranger Things Are Happening at 8x8
Spoiler Alert: This post contains Stranger Things Season 3 spoilers.
I’m admittedly late to the Stranger Things phenomenon. My wife and I only started watching it a few weeks ago but were quickly hooked and managed to binge our way through all three seasons. If you, like us, are up to speed on the latest season then you’re likely wondering about Jim Hopper’s fate and the significance of Murray Bauman’s leaked phone number. Fans of the show here at 8x8 have a few theories of our own on hidden coordinates, “The American”, and the loss of Eleven’s abilities. And, as it turns out, we’re not alone.
But before that, if you’ve landed on this blog and you’re wondering, “Who is 8x8 and why are they talking about Stranger Things”, allow me to explain… 8x8 is a cloud technology company that helps businesses transform their customer and employee experience. We provide one system of engagement for voice, video, collaboration and contact center and one system of intelligence on one technology platform. You can learn more about us here but for the sake of this blog, here’s what you need to know - we’re the company that’s powering Murray Bauman’s phone number. (Which, in case you missed it, is (855) 874-9423.)
This is where things get strange (and fun) for us as a company. Without getting into the boring minutiae of it all, our platform is powered by some powerful analytics, and we have dedicated teams who monitor activity around the clock. Well, starting on July 4, they noticed a significant and suspicious amount of inbound phone calls to one specific number. A drastic influx in volume like this is often a sign of fraud and we work diligently to protect our customers from such attacks. Imagine our surprise and delight when we discovered that this time around it was because the phone number belonged to Ralph and Co., an 8x8 customer and the creative agency behind this latest easter egg.
While we don’t have any more details on what these clues mean, we’re honored to play a small part in the Stranger Things universe. We will be sitting in front of devices with many of you to see what this all means in season four. And, if you’re a business looking to make an impact with your customers, we’d love to have a conversation about how 8x8 can help. Contact us today to learn more.
