In this series, we are featuring Team8s who worked at 8x8, left to pursue other interests, and then returned to our team. We’re so excited to welcome back Amanda Burton, Global Senior Strategic Partner Manager.

8x8: Amanda, welcome back to the team! To get us started, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Amanda Burton (AB): Sure! I’ll start by saying that I’m based in the UK and have recently rejoined 8x8 as a Global Senior Strategic Partner Manager within the Professional Services team.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, and when it is not raining, a glass of wine in the sunshine. Aside from that, my first and the busiest job that I have is being a mum of two, five and (almost) nine, which takes up most of my free time—with clubs, homework, and constantly tidying up around them!

8x8: Did you always know you wanted to pursue a career in this field?

AB: After I finished school, I went straight into telecoms as I knew people who worked there. Other than for an 18-month period where I worked for a food retail company, I have only worked for telecom companies so that is all I know!

I started my career in data and then moved to voice in 2017—when I first worked for 8x8. And then, before rejoining 8x8 in June this year, I spent three years running a technical department for a UCaaS provider with a pre-sales and technical solutions team as well as a technical training team.

8x8: What have been some of the most valuable lessons you’ve learned throughout your career so far?

AB: I think the main lesson I have learnt is to constantly try and work at the level you need to for the next job you want to get. And to always ask questions.

8x8: What encouraged you to return to 8x8?

AB: I loved my job and my team so it is great to be back in the same team with an opportunity to expand on the offering of Professional Services for Channel.

8x8: What did you miss most about 8x8?

AB: What I missed was the people and the product—it isn't until you're working with another voice product that you realise how good 8x8 really is!

8x8: Is there something that you’ve always wanted to learn or try outside of work?

AB: I would love to be able to speak another language, either French or Spanish.

8x8: What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?

AB: I used to be a singer-songwriter, but I left that life a long time ago! Also, our family legend has it that I am a blood relative to Sir David Attenborough, but the family tree has yet to prove it.

8x8: Looking back, what is the most enjoyable or exciting thing that has happened to you this year so far?

AB: I have just sold my house so we are going to be moving to our “forever home” later this year, which is definitely the most exciting thing that will have happened to my family this year!
